"The Quakers had been holding services for some time before they finally built a church, in 1874. Elam Henderson and Benjamin Canaday worked hard to get the church started, but they disagreed on one important question. Henderson had gone east and purchased a bell to be hung in the church's belfry, but other members of the group insisted no Quaker church had ever had or should have a bell to call people to service. The problem was finally solved by erecting a belfry near (not on) the church and placing the bell in it. The lower part of this building was used for storage of wood, coal, and other supplies."
"In 1909, extensive remodeling was done to the church, which became the first Quaker church in the Midwest to have stained glass windows. A new addition was added to the church in 1958."
