GEORGE(3) cont. -

(4) 9. SAMUEL HAWORTH, 9th child of George and Susannah (Dillon) Haworth, was born in Greene Co., Tennessee in 1797, (Note: Archives at S. L. and Hinshaw's Qua. Gen, say Samuel born 1795 Westfield Surry Co., N.C. md Hannah Haynes. Haworth by Nellie Evans says he was born 19 Mar. 1795 d 1868 md 1 July 1821 Hannah Haynes. However, the Sheet at the Archives & Mrs. Evans may have gotten the 1795 date & place from Hinshaw making only one source instead of 3 in agreement.) and died in Warren Co., Iowa in 1867. He married Hannah Haines.

Vol. 3, #10 of the Haworth Record is missing. Evidently it contained the genealogy of four of Samuel's children and the beginning of the record of the fifth child, thus the information available concerning him is contained in three letters written to Mr. Davis.

Mrs. Anna K, Haworth of Ackworth, Iowa in a letter written June 2, 1907 said, "My husband, George D.  Haworth, was the youngest son of Samuel and Hannah Haworth. Samuel's father was George, third child of James the son of the Emigrant. I have heard my husband tell about his grandfather going with Boone into Kentucky.  George and James went with Boone on his second trip into Kentucky. My husband died Dec. 6, 1900."

John H. Henderson of Indianola, Iowa said, "Samuel Haworth moved from Clinton Co., Ohio to Warren Co., Iowa June 1, 1846, and settled on the farm where he died in l867." The farm was near Ackworth, Iowa. In July 1906 to quote again from Mr. Henderson, "There are but two of Samuel's children living:  Jeremiah M. Haworth, who is 82 years old, living in Oklahoma and John H. Haworth who is 74 years old. He has a large number of descendants.

Sept. 23, 1907 John E. Haworth wrote a long letter to Mr. Davis, part of which deserves direct quotation. "My father's name was Samuel, 9th child of George Haworth who, with his brother James, went with Daniel Boone a part of the journey to Kentucky in 1773. They went with Boone for the purpose of looking at the country with a view to moving there at some future time. George was married in Virginia but James was not married at that time. They turned back before the party was attacked by Indians.

Letter from John H. Haworth(5) cont. -

(4) 9. SAMUEL HAWORTH cont. -

"My father was born March 10, 1797 1& Tennessee and moved with his parents to Ohio in 1802." All other records state that the move to Ohio was made in 1803.

Vol. 4, #3 of The Haworth Record has on its first page "Descendants of Samuel Haworth continued from page 127 Vol. 3." Then it proceeds with what must be a partial list of the descendants of Samuel's 5th child. Some of the persons listed were living in Nashville, Oklahoma, from which place John H. Haworth's letter was written. As his letter follows this list it is probable that they are his descendants and that he was the 5th child of Samuel and Hannah (Haines) Haworth.

From Page 14, Vol. 4, #2
